These trousers are inspired by a 1920s novelty advertising banner. The original banner was for the Society Brand Clothes and was likely intended for a store display. Founded in 1902, the brand manufactured men’s suiting in Chicago until 1952. The silhouette is that of a traditional trouser—mid-rise with a straight leg.

These trousers are inspired by a turn-of-the-century tobacco silk quilt. Tobacco silks were small printed fabric cards inserted in cigarette packages. The themes of silks varied widely and included military awards, kings and queens, and animals. The silhouette is that of a traditional trouser — high rise, straight leg.
